Born in Évora in 1979, Jorge Fonseca completed secondary education specialising in multimedia studies.
It was in that beautiful city of the Alentejo region that he spent most of his life and where he acquired an interest for the surrounding rural landscapes. This close contact with nature allowed him to train his eye, which later led to his photographic pursuit.
The awakening to the world of photography happened three years ago in the Algarve, where he has been living for eight years. It was in this southernmost region of mainland Portugal that he began to see photography with a more creative and refined eye. Jorge Fonseca explains: “It’s through photography that I show my vision of the natural world. Spurred by an adventurous spirit and with the necessary photographic equipment, I explore the magnificent nature that is all around, aiming to capture magical moments while developing my technique.” In the Algarve region, Jorge has found a diversity of landscapes that have helped improve his photographic skills in a variety of themes, although he prefers natural landscape photography. “The Algarve coastline, the sea and its tides, as well as the region’s biodiversity provide me with endless opportunities to further myself in my goals,” says Jorge. “I can either choose to photograph a beautiful twilight view by the seashore or go on a photo expedition through the less trodden lanes of the Monchique hills.” Through the lens, Jorge is able to capture the stunning natural beauty of landscapes. In his type of work, a lot of patience and the ability to master the dynamics of light are required. The atmosphere, the location, time of day or simply a unique, forgotten object lying somewhere in all its glory are all factors the photographer considers before capturing that transient moment. Valuing the natural world that surrounds him, Jorge wants to share the moments he captures and his knowledge about this vast and gratifying art with all who are interested. Describing himself as an amateur, Jorge improves his photography techniques while exploring the Algarve and Alentejo regions and, whenever possible, other parts of Portugal and the world.
